Benjamin Myers has written a new introduction for one of his favourite novels, A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr.

This edition is published by the late Carr’s own Quince Tree Press, which is now run by his family. Alongside novels they also publish lovely pocket-sized books on poetry, churches, language, monarchs, plus maps and more besides.

The new 2026 edition of A Month In The Country is out now and can be bought in shops or directly from Quince Tree Press. The 1987 film adaptation starring Colin Firth and Kenneth Branagh is worth seeking out too.

(Fun-fact: Ben lives in a house previously owned by actor Eileen O'Brien, who plays Mrs Ellerbeck in the film version.)
